Follow the route, use the map to plan your stops, and immerse yourself in Bali’s magic, from the bustling streets of Ubud to the serene coastlines of Nusa Penida.

🏞️ Day 1 – Ubud: Culture & Rice Terraces

Start your Bali adventure in Ubud, known for its rich culture, traditional arts, and verdant landscapes. This town in the island’s heart offers a peaceful escape and a deeper understanding of Bali’s heritage.

  • Morning
Your first stop is the Ubud Palace (Puri Saren Agung), a regal example of Balinese architecture. The palace is open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and entry is free. Walk around the beautifully landscaped gardens, and admire the intricate carvings.Next, head to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, an enchanting jungle full of long-tailed macaques. Here, you’ll encounter ancient temples, statues, and over 700 monkeys. The entrance fee is around $5, and it’s open from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Don’t forget to bring a camera—this is one of Bali’s most Instagrammable spots!

  • Midday
Take a short drive to the Tegallalang Rice Terraces, just a 30-minute ride from Ubud. Famous for their stunning beauty, these terraces offer a perfect spot for photos. You can walk through the paddies, enjoy the view from one of the cafes perched above, and learn about the subak irrigation system that has been used here for centuries. You’ll find local handicrafts sold by the side of the road, so it’s a great place for some souvenir shopping.

  • Afternoon
Cap your day off with a stroll along the Campuhan Ridge Walk, a scenic pathway that stretches through lush hills and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. The walk is relatively easy, taking about 30-45 minutes one way. It’s free to visit and provides a peaceful contrast to the more crowded spots in Ubud.

  • Insider Tip: For the best coffee in town, stop by Seniman Coffee. Ubud’s cafes serve some of the best coffee in Bali, and this one is particularly popular with locals.

🗺️ Day 2 – Volcano Sunrise & East Bali Temples

Rise early on Day 2 to embark on a sunrise trek up Mount Batur, an active volcano that offers one of the most rewarding hikes in Bali.

  • Early Morning
Your adventure begins before sunrise. The trek to Mount Batur typically starts at 3:00 AM, ensuring you reach the summit in time to witness the incredible sunrise. The hike is moderate in difficulty but well worth the effort. At the summit, enjoy panoramic views of Lake Batur and surrounding volcanoes as the sun rises over the horizon. Sunrise tours cost around $40, including a guide, and the trek takes about 2 hours.

  • Midday
After the trek, head to Tirta Empul Temple, one of Bali’s most famous sacred sites. Known for its holy spring water, locals and visitors alike come here for purification rituals. The temple, located in Central Bali, has a rich history and is surrounded by lush greenery. The entrance fee is around $3, and the temple is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

  • Afternoon
Take a relaxing walk through the nearby Sidemen Valley. This area is known for its rice fields and stunning mountain views. Unlike the more touristy areas, Sidemen offers an authentic experience, with plenty of local charm. You can also stop by a local market to pick up traditional Balinese crafts.

  • Tips:
The Mount Batur sunrise trek can be challenging, so bring sturdy shoes, warm clothing, and plenty of water.

Tirta Empul Temple can be busy, so try to arrive early to avoid large crowds.

⛰️ Day 3 – Waterfalls & Coffee Plantations

Spend Day 3 exploring Bali’s natural beauty, with visits to two of the island's most beautiful waterfalls and a coffee plantation where you’ll learn about the world-famous Luwak coffee.

  • Morning
Start your day at Tegenungan Waterfall, just a 20-minute drive from Ubud. The falls are easily accessible and offer great opportunities for swimming and photography. The entrance fee is about $2, and it’s open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Enjoy the cascading water and the lush jungle surrounding the falls.

  • Late Morning
Continue your adventure to Tukad Cepung Waterfall, one of Bali’s hidden gems. Tucked away in a canyon, the waterfall is illuminated by beams of sunlight, creating a magical atmosphere. The short walk to the falls is worth it, and the entrance fee is around $1.

  • Afternoon
Head to a Luwak Coffee Plantation, where you can learn about the unique process of making coffee from beans eaten and excreted by civet cats. You’ll have the chance to taste the famous Luwak coffee, a drink prized for its smooth taste. The plantation tours are free, though tips are appreciated.

  • Tip: Don’t miss the chance to buy fresh coffee beans at the plantation. They make great souvenirs or gifts.

🏝️ Day 4 – Day Trip to Nusa Penida

On Day 4, venture to Nusa Penida, an island located southeast of Bali known for its dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and rugged beauty.

  • Morning
Catch an early ferry from Sanur to Nusa Penida (around 45 minutes). The ferry ride costs about $10 each way, and ferries depart regularly throughout the day. Once on the island, rent a scooter (around $5/day) for easy access to the top attractions.

  • Midday
Start your exploration at Kelingking Cliff, an iconic viewpoint that offers a spectacular view of the coastline and the turquoise sea below. The hike down to the beach is steep and challenging, so it’s best suited for experienced trekkers. Afterward, visit Angel’s Billabong, a natural infinity pool where you can take a swim while surrounded by cliffs.

  • Afternoon
Head to Crystal Bay, a pristine beach known for its snorkeling opportunities. The calm, clear waters are home to vibrant marine life, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sun.

  • Tips:
Nusa Penida is best explored by scooter. However, be cautious, as some of the roads are rugged.

Bring sunscreen, water, and snacks for the day.

🏖️ Day 5 – Southern Cliffs: Uluwatu & Beach Clubs

On your final day, head to Uluwatu on the southern coast, where cliffs meet the ocean, and vibrant beach clubs dot the coastline.

  • Morning
Visit Uluwatu Temple, a stunning clifftop temple known for its dramatic location and spiritual significance. The temple is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and the entrance fee is about $3. Don’t miss the chance to watch the Kecak Dance, a traditional Balinese dance performed at sunset. It’s one of the most popular cultural performances on the island.

  • Afternoon
Spend the afternoon relaxing at Padang Padang Beach, one of Bali’s most iconic beaches. It’s perfect for lounging, swimming, or surfing. Alternatively, head to Jimbaran Bay, known for its seafood restaurants along the beach. Grab a fresh fish dinner while watching the sunset.

  • Evening
End your trip by visiting one of Uluwatu’s beach clubs, like Single Fin or Rock Bar, for an unforgettable sunset cocktail. These spots offer breathtaking views of the ocean and great vibes.

  • Tip: Arrive early to secure a good spot at the beach clubs, especially during sunset.

This Bali 5-day itinerary offers a thorough exploration of the island’s best spots, from cultural temples to volcanic treks and pristine beaches. Each day is packed with memorable experiences that will leave you with lasting memories. Whether you're traveling with family, as a couple, or solo, Bali is sure to captivate you with its unique charm.
